(Family School Liaison )

General Purpose

The Family School Liaison program exists for the purpose of improving the quality of life for children and families by facilitating community and school-based programs, and by providing direct services that: Support and enhance children’s well-being ~ Support the school /family/youth relationship ~ Provide consultative services and educational resources to the school ~ Offer resources and programs to students, families and/or the community ~ Provide support and counselling to children and families.

Prevention and Early Intervention

The mandate of the Family School Liaison program is prevention and early intervention. The FSLW strives to meet the following goals: Enhance and strengthen family and community life ~ Enhance skills to manage concerns and difficulties ~ Improve family functioning ~ Divert crisis that may require major intervention.

Liaison / Collaboration

The Family School Liaison Worker may liaise and/or collaborate with children, families, schools, and the community by: Fostering cooperation and communication between children, families, and schools ~ Promoting children’s academic development by fostering support between home and school ~ Developing educational programs for and/or with the community ~ Enhancing communication and collaboration between the school and the community ~ Networking with community groups and agencies to address social issues ~ assisting referrals to other agencies such as Children and Family Services Authority, Mental Health, etc.
